Computational Social Science (CSS) is a scientific discipline where computational methods, data analysis, and simulation models of social dynamics are employed to offer new insights into social phenomena beyond what is available with traditional social science methods. The CSS 2017 Conference will bring together international practitioners of CSS to present peer reviewed research using computational social science methods.

About CSS:
Computational Social Science (CSS) is a scientific discipline where computational methods, data analysis, and simulation models of social dynamics are employed to offer new insights into social phenomena beyond what is available with traditional social science methods. The CSS 2018 Conference will bring together international practitioners of CSS to present peer reviewed research using computational social science methods.

Paper Submissions:
The CSS Program Committee invites papers and posters concerning computational models of social phenomena. Models from all social science disciplines are welcomed.

All submissions, including posters, will be subject to peer review.  The Program Committee and conference organizers may request that submissions for papers be converted into posters, or vice versa, depending on scheduling and content.

Topics of Interest (non-exhaustive list):

Methods:
Computational modeling
Agent-based Modeling
System Dynamics
Game Theoretic
Social Network Analysis
Networks

Theoretical Foundations:
Emergence
Information flow
Fitness functions
Basins of Attraction
Thresholds
Influence / social contagion
Adaptation / evolution
Learning
Strategy
Competition / cooperation
Energy

Applications / Domains:
Economic models / resource allocation
Population dynamics
Ecosystems
Political / social systems
Biological systems
Education systems
Healthcare

Papers:
Papers should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words in length, including all figures, tables, notes, references and appendices. References should use the ACM format. ODD documentation of models is encouraged and can be attached to a submission without counting against the word limit. All documents should be uploaded in PDF format.

Posters:
Poster submissions require only an 800 word abstract at the submission deadline. They should be clearly marked as poster submissions in the title. Posters should be no larger than 36″ x 48″. A PDF version of the poster should be uploaded to the conference EasyChair site by the appropriate deadline (Oct 1) to be archived on the conference website.

Special Interest Groups:
For the first time, CSS2018 will include special interest group (SIG) sessions before the full conference. If you are interested in organizing a SIG session, please send a brief description to css2018@computationalsocialscience.org by April 30th. Preliminary plans call for a four-hour time block on the afternoon of October 25, before the opening reception. SIG sessions can take a wide variety of forms, ranging from tutorials and workshops to group discussions or hackathons. SIGs that are approved by the conference organizers will be announced in conference marketing and provided with meeting space at the conference venue.

Paper Publications:
All CSS 2018 accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings, published by the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). ACM proceedings format and templates can be found here. Please note that ACM fonts may need to be downloaded and installed.
